Open this book to the copyright page (ii). the second sentence of the copyright notice, "This book is sold under the assumption that neither the author nor the publisher should be asked to provide the services within." (see image of disclaimer) this is a fairly accurate representation of the books content. The book contains numerous inaccuraccies and ommissions, and while the back jacket boldly states "C++ Made Easy - a Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners". It is none of these things. In fact it doesn't even have any steps (see the uploaded image for the third source code sample suitable for beginners???). The most useful and accurate portion of the book is the final chapter (page 83) "How to avoid being hacked", which has helpful tips such as "Be careful of links" and "Don't go to a website you don't trust".I bought and read this book and can never get my money or time back, do not make the same mistakes I did. Do not buy or read this book. There are many short, concise, inexpensive, accurate books dedicated to C++ (for example C++ Pocket Reference by Kyle Loudon which has only 28 more pages) which you could purchase instead.
The book is really good, it starts into the basics of windows programming but only goes far enough so you know how to get a program running to start making direct games. But the rest of the book is a blast to read and the information is priceless and as you go through the book you start building a library of your own for directx that you can use in all your projects and games even after the book is read, which gives it lasting value and the writing style is excellent and interesting, the example code just works everytime if you type it in correctly. Overall this book is perfect for me and perfect for anyone who understands C++ and wants to make games with directs and It uses the command prompt window exclusively which was disappointing and i expected it to touch on how to create a program through Visual Studio Express. Overall, good book, especially for a beginner. Really, it whet my appetite for a more substantial book and it covers from the very beginning of programming, like messages output, until the creating your own game .exe file (GUI isn't included). It's a perfect tool to learn a new language getting fun.
Whether you are looking to get into programming or are a 'dabbler' like me, look no further. Mr. Clark, who has been programming for over 20 years, offers informative insights in coding with C++.Now, this book is not a completely biased advertisement for this way of programming. Mr. Clark brings to light the difficulties associated with using C++ as well as outlining the many adaptive positives!Along with examples; the book breaks down the components of compatible codes and Mr. Clark includes a nice series of libraries to get you started. Also, there is a detailed glossary at the end to help you novices out there understand what each of the terms mean and how they correlate to what you're looking to accomplish. As Mr. Clark indicates, the possibilities are only limited only to your knowledge of the right codes. He shows you the way and the rest is up to you.I believe that this is the beginner's part of three books and that each one adds more layers into guiding the reader into becoming a better programmer.A very easy to read and informative book!
I purchased two of these books for my two grand daughters; one in college and one in high school. Since all engineering students are required to learn "coding" in their freshman year at the university-----and literally write a program that they can run in class----I felt this was the best book for that purpose. Why? Because by the end of this step-by-step instruction booklet, IF the student has a knowledgeable professor, the student will be successful.
This is a great book for beginners who want to learn more on the subject and absolute basics of computer programming in C++. It demonstrates the core principles and other definitions on the nature of programming in an easy to understand manner. This is a perfect book for those who want to take those first steps into programming, but are intimidated by all of the jargon. The book breaks everything down into easily digestible bite-sized chunks. Highly recommended.
C++ having been around now for a long time is still extensively used so I thought an updated read might be helpful. I am glad this was the author I chose. Not only informative but covered everything I could think of that basic C++ programming would need.I liked the layout and use of examples throughout the book. Very helpful I thoroughly recommend.
Learn the basics of C++ Programming which is versatile and practical. Pros and Cons of this program are expounded. The book could be improved with correction of spelling, grammar, and addition of hyphens in the narrative portions. My favorite parts were Pros/Cons, Hangman, and comparison to other programs. Expect to glean a thorough outlook of C++ when you read Nathan Clark’s ebook.
As the author says, you won't become a programmer by reading one book but you'll access everything you need such as references, terminology and basic tools for becoming one! A clear and concise guide, this book convinced me that even a beginner like me can eventually better my programming 'conversations' with C++ to get into the programming game for real. It's everything you need to begin your journey, highly recommended.
